Huntsville Protective Orders Attorney

When family violence, stalking, or threatening behavior puts you or your children at risk, a protective order can provide immediate legal protection. In Walker County, protective orders are handled through the 12th District Court — and having a local attorney who knows the court and can act quickly matters enormously in these situations.

Ryan Putz is a Huntsville family law attorney who handles protective order cases on both sides — representing applicants who need protection and respondents who are facing orders they believe are unjustified. He approaches every protective order matter with urgency, preparation, and a clear understanding of Walker County's court process.

Protective Order Services in Huntsville, TX

An Emergency Protective Order is issued by a magistrate or judge at the time of a family violence arrest, typically without a hearing. EPOs go into effect immediately and last between 31 and 91 days. If you have been the victim of family violence and law enforcement has been involved, an EPO may already be in place — and Ryan Putz can help you understand your rights and take the next steps toward a final protective order.

If there has been family violence and the situation requires immediate court intervention, a judge can issue a Temporary Ex Parte Protective Order without notifying the other party. This order can be granted on the same day you apply and provides immediate protection while a full hearing is scheduled — typically within 14 days.

A Final Protective Order is entered after a hearing where both parties have an opportunity to present evidence. If the court finds that family violence occurred and is likely to occur again, it can enter a final order lasting up to two years — or in serious cases, permanently. Ryan Putz prepares clients thoroughly for the protective order hearing, ensuring the evidence is organized and presented effectively.

What a Protective Order Can Do

  • Exclude the respondent from the family home

  • Establish temporary custody of children

  • Prohibit contact with the applicant and family members

  • Require the respondent to complete a batterer's intervention program

  • Prohibit the respondent from possessing a firearm
